Designer and woodworker Sam Maloof has passed away. I saw a documentary on PBS a few years back on his work that blew my mind. He was the kind of artist who wanted to infuse the artist, the art, and the viewer in one experience. He refused to commercializre his work when offered multi-million dollar design deals because he felt his art and design would be lost without the touch of the woodworkers hands. He wrote books on how to make his furniture so everyone could be an artist and (up until his death), prefered to be refered to as a 'woodworker' because, "I like the word. It's an honest word."
